As much as we may try to avoid them, emergencies and accidents are a part of life. At Knollwood Dental Group, we are pleased to offer after-hours emergency dental care in Mobile, Alabama, to care for you and your family in your time of need. If you experience a dental emergency, we encourage you to contact our office at 251-666-3982, and Dr. Donald Brown III will see you as soon as possible. When you visit our practice for your emergency care, our dentist and team will carefully examine your condition and provide immediate, comprehensive care to get your oral health back on track.
There are many dental emergencies that our dentist can care for. Below, we have listed some of the most common dental emergencies and how you can immediately care for them before getting proper treatment:
- Toothache: Gently clean around the sore tooth and rinse with salt water. If there is swelling, apply a cold compress. You may also take over-the-counter pain killers if the pain becomes unmanageable. Never apply aspirin directly to the tooth or gum.
- Displaced Permanent Tooth: When a tooth is knocked out, be sure to keep the tooth, holding it only by the crown. Thoroughly rinse the tooth and, if possible, place it back into the socket. Hold the tooth in place with a gauze or piece of cloth. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, place it in a glass of water or milk until you can visit the dentist.
- Broken Tooth: If part of your tooth breaks, try to recover as many pieces as possible. Rinse the tooth to remove any remaining fragments, and place a cold compress on the cheek. Visit the dentist as soon as possible.
- Possible Broken Jaw: Use a large piece of fabric or a towel to tie the mouth shut and immobilize it. Go to the emergency room right away.
